Monarch Cross Country Practice starts on Monday August 21st with Optional Practices Monday-Thursday 3:00 (Mon starts at 3:30 due to the Eclipse-OCS Rule) at the NHS Track states veteran Coach David Hager.

Mandatory Practices will begin on Monday August 28th at 2:45 on the NHS Track.

You must be eligible to participate in any NHS practice; Athletic Physical & Proof Of Insurance (form on NHS School Website), grades, etc.

Cross Country is a unique and fun sport if you enjoy running, just want to stay in shape or want to get ready for Winter or Spring Track seasons or another sport. The "running season" lasts all year long!  The competition course is 3.1 miles run over different terrain (not just running laps around a track!).

Both Girls and Boys teams compete separately and must consist of at least 5 runners to receive a score; in other words, the more runners a team has, the more competitive you are as the best times are counted for the team placement.

Cross Country is an excellent sport for a Freshman or Sophomore who may feel hesitant about participating in a high school sport for the first time or feel like they may not have the skills right now for another sport. If you enjoy running, GET INVOLVED with Cross Country as your running strength, endurance, strategy and times will improve as the season moves along. It's also a great way to earn your first high school letter to show your friends and to put on your resume. It also forms a close set of friends and team-work! Encourage your friends to come out!
